Gazebo

Hello my friends, these last few months my husband has been working so hard to finish this gazebo.  This is a corner for me to share my photographs, paintings, and my other interests and other ideas soon to come... Please feel free to leave me a message so I can do more.  I am learning a lot this year and I have had time to share my work, my paintings, and my garden.  Thank you all very much for always giving me a plus.  I appreciate everyone.  Have a good afternoon.  Take care and God Bless!

Cherries

Tossing and turning at night? Cherries are a good source of melatonin. They have also been found to help with jet lag. Aside from that they are delicious, love the color and in season now! When you eat cherries, you enjoy much more than just their amazing taste and not only that they’re packed with antioxidants and offer many health benefits, including help with insomnia, joint pain and belly fat. I have read that Alzheimer’s Association includes cherries as one of the memory boosting food because they are rich in antioxidants.

Hamming Bird

Hummingbird brings the gift of joy. They come and fly close to us in the evening.  I was very happy to see the hamming bird taking a bath when the sprinkler system came on.  I have come to realize that just making yourself happy is most important. Never be ashamed of what you feel. You have the right to feel any emotion that you want, and do what makes you happy.  A glass of wine and watching nature makes you feel relaxed and you can enjoy the evening.

Roses

I love roses for the reason that they will grow year round.  They survive even the worst drought in the Shingle Springs area.  I love the smells, colors and most women or even men love roses.  They flower from spring through fall.  We have 4 colors, light pink, pink, yellow and red.  The flowers don't have much of a fragrance, but the long tapered elegant buds open to display double, high-centered to clear blooms that are about 5 to 6 feet tall so I cut and trim most of them before summer begin.  Now they are starting to produce new flowers.

Cupola

A Cupola is specifically designed to adorn the top of your gazebo.  This cupola will turn our gazebo into a beautiful backyard centerpiece.  It took two days to make but it is beautiful.  This is my husband’s signature work.  It’s elegant and the trims are detailed.

Okra Plant

There are many reasons for growing Okra. Okra is rich in numerous vitamins and minerals and nutrients that are responsible for health benefits and it help to prevent diabetes, support colon health, could help with respiratory issues like asthma.

I also like Okra because of its ability to withstand drought compared to other vegetables, but for good growth and production, you’ll need to water at least 2 to 3 times week, just as with other vegetables. Just know that if you run into an extended dry period and can’t seem to water enough, okra will be the last to suffer.  The early growth of okra is often slow, but the plants grow much faster once summer starts. My okra’s leaves get bigger now.  I am smiling every morning.

Squash

Our garden looks much better now.  This is my exercise every day, resulting in less stress and it makes me happy.  I can get spices and vegetables in my garden that are organic and fresh.  I wish everybody especially in the Philippines could do the same thing so that they don’t have to go to the market and buy vegetables.  We can do it in our backyard. We should aim for two or more cups of fruit a day and two and one-half cups of vegetables. Most adults eat one cup of fruit and about one and a half cups of vegetables a day.

There are lots of factors why Filipinos eat less fruits and vegetables and more meat and poultry.  One of them is the mass migration to urban centers and the stress of a city lifestyle during the last three decades. Lifestyles have changed and sadly, our nutrition has taken a big hit for it.  I try to teach my relatives to eat more vegetables instead of more processed food.  When I was growing up we ate lots of fruits and vegetables and less meat.  We only ate meat once or twice a week even though we had cows, goats, chickens and pigs.  We walked a lot more not like the kids these days that are more into watching TV and playing games.  It was very different when I was growing up.

Planting vegetables and spices is a great therapy not only for me but for everyone.  Let’s do it.
